Bluedog reduces its CO2 emissions by 45 tons annually with a switch to LED lighting

07th May 2016

We just spent nearly $40,000 installing LED lighting in our new factory premises. The new LED lights replace mercury vapour high bay lights that are about 10 years old. We opted to install higher intensity lights at key work areas in the building where there is careful fabrication or quality checking taking place.

The benefits of the LED lights:

  • it will reduce our CO2 output from the production of electricity for the lights from about 70 tons a year to 25 tons.
  • it will reduce our electricity consumption by nearly 70% annually, with a large corresponding cost saving.
  • improve quality control through the manufacturing process by way of better light to work in and monitoring of quality.
  • an improved work environment that supports improved safety and staff morale.

The investment made use of the NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS).

This environmental improvement follows previous key improvements by Bluedog such as progressively removing packing foam, removing chromate from our metal pre-treatment process and reclaiming surplus powder during the coating process.
